Public Course

 

Raleigh Golf Association (RGA) has 27 holes of golf, 18 holes are public and 9 holes are private (open to stockholders and members on designated days & times, designated golf leagues, and tournaments). These 27 holes provide unique challenges for all levels of golfer experience. RGA is “walker-friendly” course with minimal distances from green to tee.

From the blue tees, the public 18 measures 6,088 yards. and has a course rating of 68.8 and a slope of 123. See the chart below for measurements and ratings for the other tee boxes.

Front Nine
The public 18 starts with a straightaway par 4, missing the green and long putts making hole No. 1 challenging. Hole No. 2 is a par 4 with a slight dogleg to the right and a significant elevation change in the middle of the fairway, often leading to an uphill second shot to a green bunkered on the right side. Hole No. 3 is a par 3 birdie opportunity, unless you end up on the wrong side of a severely tiered green. Hole No. 4 is a straight par 5 with definite birdie possibilities, if you can keep the ball out of the trees along the left-hand side. Hole No. 5 is a par 4 dogleg left with definite tree problems if your tee shot is short or left of the fairway. Hole No. 6 is a reachable (in two) par 5, providing you navigate the tall tree between you and the optimal tee shot landing area. We recommend to not go over the green. Hole No. 7 is a long par 3 with bunkers on the right side and bushes to the left of the green, be happy with a par here. Hole No. 8 is a par 4 dogleg right, do not try to cut the corner too much or you’ll end up with tree trouble. Hole No. 9 is a par 4 where a good drive can get you close to (or even on) the green. Total yardage from blue tees is 2,967, from the white tees it is 2,710, from the red tees it is 2,212.

Back Nine
Hole No. 10 is a short par 4, but has a tapering fairway with tree trouble running down the right side and a severely sloping green. Hole No. 11 is a dogleg right with a narrow open slot off the tee and tree trouble waiting for those pushing the ball too far right. Hole No. 12 is a definite par 3 birdie opportunity. Hole No. 13 is a long, uphill par 4 requiring two very good shots to have any chance at par or better. Hole No. 14 is a par 5 with a very narrow optimal tee shot landing area (tree trouble on the right and a severely slanting fairway towards the road), that will reward a good 1st and 2nd shot. Hole No. 15 is a downhill par 3 over water, guarded by sand to the right and a severely tiered green. Hole No. 16 is a par 5 that rewards a well-placed tee shot which allows for a slotted (between the trees) 2nd shot up the hill towards the green for a look at birdie. Hole No. 17 is a par 4 with definite tee shot tree trouble on the right side and a downhill (or downhill lie) second shot to the green. Hole No. 18 is a par 4, uphill all the way that plays longer than it looks, and has a 3-tiered green waiting for you at the top. Total yardage from the blue tees is 3,121, from the white tees it is 2,835, from the red tees it is 2,295.
